Job Description

Position Description:

The Controller manages finance and accounting departments providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist the executive team, management, and other users in making educated economic decisions about the company’s future.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits and annual budgets.
  • Oversee the activities of the disbursement department, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, Corporate AmEx card, petty cash, employee expense reports, cash control, and payroll processing.
  • Oversee the activities of the accounts receivable department to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, etc
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the company’s value.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Oversee and be directly responsible for the General Ledger and all entries made thereto. Review and analyze all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis with current proof-of-balance reports.
  • Provide periodic key metrics and other performance indicators as requested by management.
  • Possess an understanding of Medicaid and Medicare billing, specifically in a for-profit Hospice entity.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the company’s value.
  • Respond to CFO as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate his financial needs.

Job Qualifications:

E Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

E CPA certification.

E Transportation: Reliable transportation with valid and current auto liability insurance. Will need to travel locally with some exposure to weather.


E Prior experience in financial management.

D Prior experience in hospice industry.

Skills and Abilities:

E Able to utilize the Microsoft Office suite.

E Have in-depth knowledge of computer use.

E Able to create reports and generate information as requested via computer resources.

E Able to articulate on telephone and be responsive to all callers.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position operates in a professional office environment; routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines and is primarily a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files up to 25 pounds, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.
